Kapalwanamu
One of the highlights of our trip back home this time was going to Kapalwanamu. It was an incredibly short trip, just long enough to say hello and go on a couple of nice adventures nearby.
On the first day we went on a walk along the edge of the rocks, stopping to look at some of the amazing rock art galleries along the way, and also to check on dad’s bees. One of mum’s favourite pictures was these emu’s. Even though faded they are still amazingly lifelike …

Next day, dad took us to a nearby stretch of the liverpool river, where we were able to go for a bit of a kayak. All the way Jake’s dog bundi kept trying to bite tree trunks from the back of the ute! To say the least it looked like a dangerous hobby … but despite several nasty clashes with large or spiky trees he kept at it with real vigour.
Me and Jan went for first turn in the kayak, and had a magic hour of paddling up a river until eventually we reached a small rapid, leading to the next stretch. All the way we paddled slowly, gazing up at the rock cliffs on either side, and the nice river pandanus. Meanwhile, Mum, Dad and Jake went for a wander, looking at more rock art.
Sadly, the next day it was time to go back to Darwin again and say goodbye.
